Styling a Vintage Jumpsuit

Vintage Jumpsuit, love this one and this one // Jessica Simpson Shoes, TJ Maxx, similar // Zara Clutch bag sold in stores, love this one // Loft woven belt // Zara Sunnies, similar // C.Wonder Bracelets // Madewell necklace // Kate Spade bow ring // Essie nail color in Bikini So Teeny

Part of the fun of vintage shopping is rediscovering past trends that I adored wearing growing up.  I came across this vintage navy jumpsuit  just recently while exploring Little Five Points in Atlanta.  A sense of nostalgia come over me as I slipped it on. Suddenly, I was transported back in time to the 80's when Janet Jackson made shoulders pads, high waisted pants and militant unisex wear look Ã¼ber cool in her music videos.  Yes, I proudly rocked the 80's and 90's with oversized shoulder pads and the big shellac hair.

Vintage styling tip:

To modernize a vintage garment, play with new accessories; a new belt, a great pair of heels and a sharp bag will make any outfit current. Gold jewelry also adds a modern flare. I like to go up a size or two for a looser fit so that I can belt,  roll up the sleeves or cuff the pants for an edgy vibe. If it's a little too big but you love it, buy it and get it altered!

Check out this short video on how to style a jumpsuit three ways, no matter what age and body type.

Customizing with eShakti

J.Crew chambray top // Polka Dot Skirt c/o eShakti // Zara shoes, similar // Thrifted clutch bag, similar  // C. Wonder bracelets // Warby Parker sunnies

I am not your typical online shopper. Being a curvy girl,  I like to go into stores, feel the fabric and try things on to ensure it's the right fit.  So when the folks at eShakti invited me to try customizing one of their designs, I knew I couldn't go wrong.

eShakti is a line of women's fashion clothing that sells beautiful dresses, tops, skirts and even jackets online - the best part is, they customize them to your height, size, and style! Yay, for us who are not your typical standard sizes! For those of you who don't require customizing, they offer sizes 0-36W.

They are having an amazing sale right now, BUY ONE GET ONE FREE!! So now may be a great time for you to give them a try! I ordered this fabulous vintage inspired polka dot skirt that I had customized to my specs and it fit me like a glove.  Just remember, when ordering online, if you fall between two sizes, you may want to size up.

Pin-up Inspired Summer Dresses

Dress c/o Voodoo Vixen,  also love this one, this  one and this one // Nine West Shoes // Zara Sunglasses, not sold online, but crazy about these // Stila Lip Stain in Beso  // Sunkissed Ultra Sheer Tights c/o Hanes  // Jessica Simpson Bracelet, old but here is a similar one!

I think we've covered the fact that I am into fun and flirty dresses this summer.  There are so many cute dresses out there right now! So when the team at Voodoo Vixen approached me about working on a collaboration together about their vintage inspired dresses, I gravitated towards this one, because you can't go wrong with a classic black and white print.

To be honest, it was hard to choose just one to write about, they offer so many pretty vintage inspired lady-like dresses. While the pin-up style may not be for everyone (I never thought I could pull this look off) once you slip a dress like this on, your inner sexy Hollywood siren comes out and you feel like a glam girl from another era. It's fun for a special event or date night, but you can also style these dresses for a daytime look by toning down your accessories and your shoes,  just add a cardi, a pair of flats or sandals.  For a flawless and polished look, I added a pair of Hanes Ultra Sheer tights. These tights give you that spray tan look without going through the hassle and your legs will look smooth and perfect!

This summer it's all about having fun with fashion, so why not and embrace your inner diva!

Romantic Notions

Romance is what keeps our marriage fresh and exciting. After 30 years together, Bill and I remain devoted to each other and more in love today than ever.  Our secret? We are best friends with a mutual respect for each other.  We are not marriage experts by any means, but through all the growing pains, having babies and the heartache of losing loved ones, one has always been a source of support for the other.

With each brick that life has thrown at us, it has only created a deeper and richer foundation for our love to grown on.  He would be the understanding and supportive one and I would be a listening ear at the end of a long day.

Here are a few ways that we keep our love fresh:
  1. Saying the words "I love you" or "you are beautiful".  I can count in one hand how many days over these past 30 years that Bill hasn't said that he loves me or that he thinks I am beautiful.  It's amazing what a few meaningful words can do to lift your spirit, especially through those tough days.
  2. Morning coffee.  We have made a habit of having our morning coffee together just to enjoy each others company and conversation. I look forward to it so much.
  3. Bringing home the favorites.  Whether it's a Zero chocolate bar or in my eyes, a freshly baked bear claw,  we both love to buy each others favorites while at the store. When you know the other person took the extra mile to make your day a little brighter, your love is a little renewed.
  4. Trying out each others interests. Bill has a loyalty to the Cleveland Browns. Although football is not really my sport, I usually ask how they are doing and at least pretend that I know what he is talking about when he explains the scenario. I know for a fact that Bill doesn't really like taking photos for my blog, but he does it because he knows it's important to me.  In the photos above, he stepped out of his comfort zone and took photos with me.  I appreciate his great sense of style.
  5. Be his Fantasy girl.  I have fun playing dress up. Oh, get your mind out of the gutter...I don't mean that in a naughty way.  I love experimenting with clothes and accessories.  I know that Bill loves the art of tattoos and the pin-up girl is pretty popular in the tat world.  So for our Sunday brunch date, I surprised Bill in this flirty "pin-up" style dress that he bought for me on our last trip to New Orleans.  We stepped out in our stylish duds and enjoyed a nice  brunch, and most importantly...Bill's eyes were just on me.
Are we relationship experts? Oh gosh, no. Only sharing with you what we've learned along this great adventure!
