Not your daughter's kimono

There are certain fashion trends that I really like, but I am not sure if I can pull them off.  Do you ever feel like that? As of late, I have been obsessing with kimonos. Not sure why, I am not going to a music festival and I'm not 20 anymore, but I do love hippie inspired looks of a kimono paired with shorts or wide leg jeans like they wore in the 70's.

Kimono, $15 at Tj Maxx, option, option, this option is cute too  // Loft Lace Dress, old, option, option   // Tory Burch Bag // Jeffrey Campbell Booties, similar //  Free People Crochet Hat //Nars Lipstick in Roman Holiday // Essie Nails in Bikini So Teeny

I may be a hippie at heart, but my conservative style always wins.  The floral print of my kimono is so pretty,  that I threw it on over this black lace summer dress for a pop of color.  Without thinking it through, I later realized that it looks as though I had borrowed my daughters kimono to cover up my upper arms.  I may just give up on this trend and stick to my classics, but it's always fun to try something new.

Have you tried the kimono?

Here are few more of my favorite pieces that work with this trend:

  2. A perfect example of how mixing styles can work perfectly. I love the way you mixed the sweet lace with the touch shoety, with the boho pieces. Everyone can't do this, but you have succeeded!

  4. i don't think it looks like you're trying to cover up! i really like the way you styled it -- it's a lot more wearable than most of the "festival looks" i often see with kimonos.

  12. I think it´s a wonderful way to make an outfit perfect! You can also wear a blouse over your outfit but a kimono has a very special style and let the whole outfit look very stylish and special :)
